The NT guts underlying everything since (including 2000 and XP) are, if anything, a re-hash of ideas from VMS (and RSX-11M before it. Which is not surpising since Microsoft poached David Cutler (their Chief Architect for NT) from Digital.
I would much rather be running Mac. They make better gear, with a better operating system, and have people who understand good user interface. None of those things are true of Windows and current PC hardware. But I just can't, it makes no economic or technical sense for me. And in my day job, we ignore the Mac as a client machine for the same reason - less than 10% of our target marketplace use them.

it's all about software. tiger is worth the extra cost of the hardware. it just flat out kills xp in all areas.

First of all, I guess no one here has seen a Mac crash, but let me tell you, It's much more of a pain in the arse then if a pc crashes. I worked with Macs on a netwrok at my school, don't think about using two different versions of their os over a network. No to mention all the problems you get when you upgrade because of this networking problem.
The only reason PC's have so much spyware and viruses is because they're much more prolific. If half the hackers in the world devoted some time to killing Macs, you would soon see that windows is much more secure, at least now.
As for interface and ease of use, I guess macs are easier for people that don't like customization and control.
Any ways, I've worked on both. My PC never crashes, (XP SP2) because I take care of it. I haven't had a problem since that Wkleiz BS two years ago, so in my opinion, Macs are only good for one thing: stand-alone Pro-Tools rigs. Anything else, and I would use a PC.
Macs are superior to Windows, that's my opinion. There are viruses for Macs, just not many. Apple's always been a better product, the reason is due to the processor and the way a Mac handles the processing, it's a true multi tasking computer, where as Windows is pre-emptive mutlitasking. Macs are based on a RISC processor which is better at multitasking than the Intel processor. Since Macs are Unix based now, they also have the advantage of being a non-monolithic OS as opposed to Windows, which installs everything, regardlesss of if you need it. So what if you can't play all your games on a Mac, I'm not a gamer though

Even running a well configured pro windows OS can be pretty sketchy at times. I've seen explorer.exe get totally corrupted many times, whiping out the entire GUI. You never hear about these problems with Linux or Mac users.Apple's OS is based on UNIX, which is now about 30 years old.

I just Do not like the way Steve Jobbs / Apple is. Mac could be a very cool computer but it would no way fit my needs AND BUDGET. It's for the guy that would something that all he has to do is sit and go do whatever they please. Apple in general just puts a snobby we like to keep it simple and sped millons millions on marketing are super uber iPod and sell computers to people that don't know much about computers. I can goto a local store and upgrade almost every single part on my computer. Mac has ths big fancy OS with "the simple" design. Just give me xp or linux and 2,000 and I will have a computer that will do anything this dual Gwhatever computer wishes it will do. If it needs fixed I can fix it pretty easy. I've used dual G5's and they seemd alright but nothing impressive. I found it quite odd the cd eject is on the keyboard..?! How do I add any internal cd/dvd drives??? For what... 3-4k+ I cant add even one INTERNAL cd drive? I hate these companies that make you buy all of the products from them. Thats what apple tries to do. I'll pass [/rant]
